ASSESSMENTS WITH EXHALE PSYCHOLOGY GROUP

Psychological Assessments for Teens & Adults in Calgary (Ages 12+)

Sometimes therapy isn’t about learning new coping strategies.
Sometimes it’s about finally getting clear answers.

At Exhale Psychology Group in Calgary, we offer comprehensive psychological assessments for teens and adults to help clarify patterns that may be affecting learning, attention, emotional wellbeing, and daily functioning.

You may be wondering:

  • Why does everything feel harder for me than it seems for others?

  • Why can I focus in some situations but not others?

  • Why does school, work, or organization feel overwhelming?

  • Is this anxiety, ADHD, burnout, or something else?

A psychological assessment helps answer these questions with objective data, clinical insight, and clear recommendations for next steps.

Our goal is not to label you.

Our goal is to help you understand how your brain works and what support will actually help.

Assessments are completed by Registered Psychologist Priya Virk and are available for preteens, teens, and adults (ages 12+).

Meet Your Assessor

Priya is a Registered Psychologist who specializes in psychological assessment for teens and adults. Her work focuses on helping individuals better understand how their mind works — including attention, learning, emotional functioning, and executive skills.

Priya takes a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to assessment and is known for providing clear explanations, practical recommendations, and reports that are useful for both clients and professionals.

Assessments are designed to provide clarity, direction, and actionable next steps, not just a diagnosis.

Benefits of a Psychological Assessment

A psychological assessment can provide clarity in ways therapy alone sometimes cannot.

Clarity & Understanding - Identify the underlying factors affecting attention, learning, emotional wellbeing, or daily functioning.

Personalized Recommendations - Receive tailored strategies and recommendations for school, work, therapy, or daily life.

Access to Accommodations - Formal assessments may support academic accommodations, workplace supports, or additional services.

Validation - Many people experience relief in finally understanding why certain things have felt difficult for so long.

Stronger Treatment Planning - Assessment results can guide therapy, medication decisions, or other interventions with much greater precision.

Self-Understanding - Perhaps most importantly, assessments help people better understand their strengths, challenges, and how their mind works.

Not Sure if an Assessment is Right for You?

Many people aren’t sure whether they need a full psychological assessment or if therapy would be a better starting point.

That’s completely normal.

If you're wondering whether ADHD, learning differences, or mental health concerns may be affecting your life, we recommend starting with a 15-minute consultation with our assessor, Priya.

During this consultation we can:

  • discuss your concerns

  • determine whether an assessment would be helpful

  • explain the process and timelines

  • answer questions about fees and insurance

Types of Psychological Assessments We Offer

ADHD & Executive Functioning Assessments

AGES 12+, TEENS & ADULTS

ADHD is often misunderstood as simply being distracted or “hyper.”

In reality, ADHD affects the brain’s executive functioning system, which includes:

  • attention and focus

  • planning and organization

  • emotional regulation

  • ask initiation and follow-through

  • working memory

  • impulse control

Because ADHD can overlap with anxiety, burnout, trauma, or learning differences, a thorough assessment is essential to ensure an accurate understanding.

WHAT THE ADHD ASSESSMENT EVALUATES

The assessment uses standardized, evidence-based measures to evaluate:

• attention and focus
• executive functioning
• impulse control and hyperactivity
• working memory and processing speed
• emotional and behavioural functioning
• co-occurring concerns such as anxiety or learning difficulties

The goal is to create a clear functional profile, identifying both strengths and areas that may benefit from support.

For teens, ADHD may show up as:

  • unfinished assignments

  • difficulty starting tasks

  • emotional overwhelm

  • struggles with organization

For adults, it often appears as:

  • chronic procrastination

  • missed deadlines

  • difficulty managing responsibilities

  • inconsistent focus

  • feeling capable but unable to execute consistently

Psychoeducational Assessments

AGES 12+, TEENS & ADULTS

A psychoeducational assessment helps us understand how someone learns and processes information.

Many teens and adults who struggle academically or in post-secondary settings actually have average or above-average intelligence, but experience specific challenges such as:

• reading difficulties (dyslexia)
• writing challenges (dysgraphia)
• math difficulties (dyscalculia)
• attention or executive functioning challenges
• processing speed differences

Some individuals describe feeling like they are working twice as hard for the same results.

A psychoeducational assessment helps explain why.

Rather than focusing on isolated test scores, the assessment examines how different cognitive and academic skills interact to create an individual learning profile.

What a Psychoeducational Assessment Evaluates

This assessment may include:

• cognitive abilities (intellectual functioning / IQ)
• academic achievement (reading, writing, math)
• attention and executive functioning
• memory and information processing
• social-emotional functioning

The goal is to identify both strengths and areas requiring support so that appropriate accommodations or strategies can be implemented.
