Trauma Therapy (Kids, Teens, Adults)
Trauma can affect people of all ages. Sometimes it’s linked to a specific event, and other times it comes from ongoing or overwhelming experiences. Trauma doesn’t always live in words—it often shows up in the body, emotions, behaviour, sleep, or relationships. For many people, talking alone isn’t enough to fully heal.
At Exhale, we offer trauma-informed therapy for adults, children (10+), and adolescents using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). These evidence-based approaches help the brain and nervous system process difficult experiences in a way that feels safe, supported, and contained—without requiring repeated retelling or reliving of the trauma.
ART and EMDR use guided eye movements or bilateral stimulation to help reduce emotional distress, calm the nervous system, and create distance from painful memories. Clients often experience greater emotional regulation, reduced reactivity, and a stronger sense of safety and control over time.
Trauma therapy may be helpful for:
Anxiety, panic, or emotional overwhelm
Intrusive memories, nightmares, or sleep difficulties
Behavioural changes or emotional dysregulation
Feelings of shame, guilt, or persistent self-criticism
Ongoing effects of childhood, relational, or developmental trauma
Feeling stuck, on edge, disconnected, or unsafe despite insight
Sessions are tailored to each client’s age, developmental level, and comfort. With children and teens, therapists use developmentally appropriate language, creativity, and gentle guidance. Parental involvement is included when appropriate to support healing outside of sessions. With adults, therapy focuses on restoring nervous system safety, strengthening emotional regulation, and supporting long-term resilience.
